London, UK. 11th November 2016. The Royal British Legion hosts Armistice Day commemorations with 'Silence In The Square' event in London's Trafalgar Square. Each year on 11 November at 11am a two-minute silence is observed to pay tribute to British service men and women who have fallen in World Wars and were injured or died in conflicts since 1945. Armistice Day marks the end of the First World War and refers to a ceasefire between Germany and the Allies which came into effect at 11am on 11 November 1918.
